Anecdotal/Narrative Lead

"Steve Brandvold is retiring but instead of being put out to pasture, he is heading to greener pastures -- literally."

The writer uses a narrative lead in this story because its seems to be the only way to go about it. This news event has no tragedies nor does it have anything really "new breaking" its just a tale for readers who are more intrigued by human-interest stories.

nut graf: Brandvold, who for years juggled the dual roles of Pacifica fire marshal and building official, has decided it's time for a new challenge -- that of gentleman rancher amid the pastoral Pennsylvania countryside

Congrats! You may be the first person in the class to post this assignment. Thanks--I appreciate you being on top of it.

I can see why you chose this lead--it's about a person, his story. . . It definitely differs from a summary lead. That being said, it's not a text-book perfect narrative b/c it doesn't have an encapsulated anecdote or story that it's beginning with. Nonetheless, this is a good example of a non-summary lead. Thanks for finding it.

On my second read, I also want to say that you really nailed what the nut-graf is in the story. Again, good work.
